Drama Club Presents: "Songs Made Famous"

“Songs Made Famous”

By: Brandon Kimmel

Apollo-Ridge may be a small school, but the plays and musicals have always brought in a full house, and it is no mystery why. The magic that students make when they come together is something that will never lose its allure. This year will be no different.

This Apollo-Ridge Drama Club has planned a Reunion Show that will celebrate Ms. Bethany Greenlee’s 10-year anniversary of A-R's musicals. Apollo-Ridge's alumni from the past nine years of musicals have agreed to come back and take a stroll down memory lane. Ms. Greenlee had this to say about the subject, “I’m excited to celebrate the success and joy of the musical theater program at A-R. It has been a big part of my life and it has been a real pleasure to share it with the students and community.” Of course, she wasn’t the only one who had something to say about the subject. Mr. Andy Jones has also helped tremendously throughout the musical productions and says, “I have enjoyed practicing and visiting with our alumni who helped to build this program, and it will be great to see them revive their roles in the songs that defined our last nine musicals. It’s such a special experience to combine the past and present as well as celebrate the tremendous talents and efforts invested in this program over the years.”

Musicals that have been done previously include Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, The Wizard of Oz, Annie, The Boyfriend, School House Rock, Godspell, Charlie Brown, and Cinderella. Alumni that will make a return are Orren Vigo (Godspell and Charlie Brown), Kayleigh Jenkins (The Boyfriend), Maria Vigo (Cinderella), Brianna Lookhart (Cinderella and Annie), Emelia Weinel (Annie and Wizard of Oz), Jared Primm (Annie and Beauty and the Beast), and Shaley Manges (Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins). Aside from the alumni a few current Apollo-Ridge students will also perform- Mollie Charelton (Beauty and the Beast), Michael Booker (Mary Poppins), and Jessa Pontier (Mary Poppins). This show will take place at the Apollo-Ridge High School the night of November 16th at 7pm. The doors will open at 6pm and tickets will only be available for purchase at the door for $3.00. As the author of this article I, myself, have been a part of the musicals and can say it is a true pleasure unlike any other. In addition to some of your favorite tunes, current Apollo-Ridge students will be costumed and playing the roles of some of the iconic musical characters. Children of all ages can come take pictures and meet some of the iconic characters like: Charlie Brown, Lucy, Cinderella, Fairy God Mother, Prince Charming, Annie, Dorothy, Belle, Beast, and Mary Poppins! We are hoping for a great turnout in exchange for a night full of singing, memories, and fun!
