General Health and Wellness (Phys. Ed.)

The Physical Education program is designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge, behaviors and attitudes that will enable them to achieve and maintain a physically active lifestyle.  Primary emphasis is placed on personal fitness and the improvement of the health-related components of physical fitness.  The course will also enable students to develop the specific skills, knowledge and strategies necessary to participate in individual, team and lifetime-leisure physical activities, contributing to the development of a physically educated person.  The significance of using heart rates and target heart rate zones is emphasized during all personal fitness activities.  Throughout the course, safety rules are identified and practiced in all units.  Finally, this course addresses the importance of appropriate personal-social skills that are essential for successful participation and meaningful interactions with peers in physically active settings.
