SAP - Student Assistance Program

Apollo-Ridge High School Student Assistance Program

Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a systematic team process used to mobilize school resources to remove barriers to learning. SAP is designed to assist in identifying issues including alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and mental health issues which pose a barrier to a student’s success. The primary goal of the Student Assistance Program is to help students overcome these barriers so that they may achieve, advance, and remain in school.

The Student Assistance Program Team is a group of concerned educators who have been trained to provide support and assistance to students. This help enables the student to function more successfully in school.

The SAP Referral Process

First, a parent, staff member, or student makes a referral based on observable changes by contacting any member of the SAP Team.

The Team then gathers information through observations and conferences with parents/guardians.

If the parent and student give permission, team members will meet with the student and monitor their progress. The team will connect the student with what they believe are the necessary supports to help the student improve their academic success.

The Team may also ask for parental permission to have the student meet with either a Mental Health Liaison, or Drug and Alcohol Liaison, when appropriate. Referrals to outside support agencies may also be provided.

Confidentiality with students and parents is maintained by the SAP Team. You and your child's privacy is respected at all times.
